MANITOWOC - “Orange Friday” will be held in all Wisconsin Fleet Farm stores Nov. 18, including the Manitowoc store at 1235 S. Rapids Road.

Stores open at 6 a.m. that day and aim to be a “one-stop destination for hunters to ensure they are fully equipped for firearm deer hunting season.”

Wisconsin’s nine-day gun deer season starts Nov. 19 and runs until Nov. 27.

The first 500 customers through the doors at Fleet Farm on “Orange Friday” will receive a limited-edition Fleet Farm “Orange Friday” blaze-orange hat.

“Orange Friday” will also feature Hunt Week deals. Hunters can also save from 6 a.m. to noon with a Big Bucks Scratch-Off Ticket that could mean 10%-50% off their “Orange Friday” purchase.

“Orange Friday” is one of Fleet Farm’s largest — and most popular — events of the year. Hunters can fuel up their trucks, get their hunting licenses, stock up on last-minute gear and buy snacks for the tree stand.

Ascend Services breaks ground on community center renovations: Manitowoc’s Ascend Services has begun renovating its community center.

Crews from Hamann Construction began the demolition of inside structures to open spaces last week. The project is being partly funded through a grant Ascend received from the Otto Bremer Trust and is slated to be finished in early December.

Ascend Services broke ground on a renovation to its community center on Nov. 7. Pictured from left: Dale Cayemberg, Ascend Service’s director of operations; youth clientele Angel, Dominic and Makenna; Marissa Fitzgerald, Ascend Service’s service navigator; Deanna Genske, Ascend’s executive director; and Todd Wagner, Hamann Construction project manager.

“This newly renovated space will allow us to provide additional room for the Youth Programming, which is supported by the Children’s Long-Term Support (CLTS) program,” said Deanna Genske, Ascend’s executive director, in a news release. “We currently serve 22 children and are aware there is an extensive waiting list for services, per the Manitowoc Human Services. This renovation would allow us to accommodate additional referrals. We are excited that this space will allow us to design some creative separate rooms; themed rooms, varying from sensory to an art studio. We are grateful that we have secured some of the funding for this project, but it is critical that we strive to achieve more.”

In addition to creation of six themed rooms, renovations include electrical work, HVAC remodeling and replacing the roof.

Ascend Services promotes individual growth by providing community experiences, education and employment opportunities to individuals with disabilities. The facility is at 2818 Meadow Lane in Manitowoc.

Masquers to hold auditions for ‘Over the River and Through the Woods’: Manitowoc’s community theater company The Masquers has announced open auditions for the second production of its 92nd season.

The production will be “Over the River and Through the Woods,” which The Masquers says is “a warm-hearted, boisterously funny and touching story about intergenerational relationships, deep familial love, and the inevitable little heartbreaks that occur as time passes and children grow.

The auditions will be at 6:45 p.m. Nov. 28 at The Masquers Coach House, 616 N. Eighth St., Manitowoc. Three male and three female actors are sought for the show. The characters of Nick and Caitlin will be late-20s, early 30-somethings, and the grandparents are scripted as being well into their late 70s and early 80s.

All participants are asked to arrive with a completed audition form with headshot, a calendar of potential rehearsal scheduling conflicts and monologues provided in the audition materials. With the exception of Caitlin, parts require New York dialects as outlined in the audition materials. Audition forms and audition materials are available at www.themasquers.org/news.html.

Those auditioning are advised to arrive early, be ready to start on time and plan to stay for the entire session.

A preliminary read-through rehearsal will occur in December. A recording will be made and provided to the entire cast to facilitate their rehearsal. The script is relatively short, making it easier to learn than most productions, The Masquers said. Rehearsals will begin after the first of the New Year.

Performance dates are March 9-11, 2023, at the Capitol Civic Centre.

Anyone interested in auditioning who cannot attend the Nov. 28 group audition can email Director J Gravelle at j@gravelle.us to schedule an alternate audition. All other inquiries may be directed to The Masquers at info@themasquers.org.
