Hurricane 2022: Sarasota-Manatee area shelters, contact information

To help you prepare for this year's hurricane season, the Herald-Tribune has assembled lists of all of the hurricane shelters in Sarasota and Manatee counties and other helpful information.

SARASOTA COUNTY

Evacuation centers

Sarasota County has hurricane shelters in the following locations. All allow pets:

  • Fruitville Elementary School, 601 North Honore Ave., Sarasota.

  • Brookside Middle School, 3636 South Shade Ave., Sarasota.

  • Southside Elementary School, 1901 Webber St., Sarasota.

  • Riverview High School, 1 Ram Way, Sarasota.

  • Booker High School, 3201 North Orange Ave., Sarasota.

  • Phillippi Shores Elementary, 4747 South Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.

  • Gulf Gate Elementary School, 6500 South Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota.

In the event of a life-threatening emergency, call 911. To report blocked roadways or downed power lines or to find out more information about evacuation centers, call 311.

Sarasota County residents with qualifying medical needs are encouraged to apply for registration as a medically-dependent person. If you qualify, you will be added to the county’s registry for transportation and sheltering at a medically-dependent evacuation center during a disaster. Applications can be found at scgov.net/government/emergency-services/emergency-management/medical-needs-program. Individuals using oxygen must bring their oxygen concentrator and a travel tank to an evacuation center.
