Hurricane Ian: Will it affect Nashville and Middle Tennessee?
As Hurricane Ian continues to reenergize and make a second landfall, its remnants are expected to fan out across the South through the weekend. The storm made landfall in western Florida on Wednesday as a Category 4 hurricane.
It was downgraded to a tropical storm as it pushed across Florida, but was designated a Category 1 hurricane ahead of its anticipated landfall in South Carolina on Friday.
Parts of East Tennessee may see anywhere from a quarter to 3 inches of rain from the storm, but forecasters said it will miss Nashville and only minimally impact the eastern edge of Middle Tennessee.
"Saturday and Sunday, there are some portions of the Cumberland Plateau that might see a scattered shower," National Weather Service Nashville meteorologist Caroline Adcock said. "The rest of the region will mostly be dry."
Less than half an inch is expected along the plateau, she said.

Forecast: Hurricane Ian remnants headed for East Tennessee
Hurricane Ian has shifted further east, reducing the rain totals but likely still showering parts of East Tennessee starting Saturday afternoon, according to NWS Morristown.
According to the Friday morning forecast from NWS, areas like Kingston may see upward of a quarter inch of rain; a half inch in Knoxville; and 1-2 inches in areas like Kingsport and Johnson City through the weekend.
Remnants of Ian will track north and weaken as it approaches the region tonight. Forecast rainfall totals have lowered due to a slight eastward shift in the track. Wind gusts will be around 20-25 mph in the TN Valley with 30-45 mph gusts in the mountains. https://t.co/QiUOrRSYbF pic.twitter.com/GkoK82WWec
