What was once a color, vibrant artist colony and fishing village is no more.

Hurricane Ian's ferocious storm surge and un-relentless winds all but destroyed not only an historic place but a highly popular destination for visitors to Southwest Florida and season residents.

An entry point to Pine Island, Matlacha has bee turned upside down by Ian. There are no official reports on injuries or deaths.
