Hurricane Ian, the fifth-most powerful storm to hit the U.S., left countless homes and businesses damaged or underwater and nearly 2.7 million people without power. The Category 5 storm made landfall at 3:05 p.m. Sept. 28, 2022, near the island of Cayo Costa with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph.

Hurricane Ian was a monster with monstrous results, bringing devastation and destruction to much of the state, in the form of deadly storm surge, wind damage, river and inland flooding and beach erosion.

At least 144 deaths are attributed to Hurricane Ian.
