Hurricane Ian: What Palm Beach County residents need to know Wednesday

Palm Beach County Schools

As the outer bands of Hurricane Ian continue to impact Palm Beach County, Superintendent Mike Burke has made the decision to keep schools and district offices closed Thursday. Additionally, all after-school activities, including sports, school meetings, and leases are also canceled on Thursday.

Schools closed: Palm Beach County schools closed Wednesday and Thursday for Hurricane Ian

Florida Atlantic University

All campuses will suspend operations and all classes, including online classes, are canceled for Wednesday and Thursday.

Palm Beach State College

All in-person and online classes at all five campuses (Lake Worth, Boca Raton, Palm Beach Gardens, Belle Glade and Loxahatchee Groves) are canceled for Wednesday and Thursday.

Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBAU)

The university said that in-person classes scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday were canceled due to Hurricane Ian, but that fully online classes would be held as scheduled.

Keiser University

The school will close both of its West Palm Beach campuses Wednesday and Thursday.

Nova Southeastern University

The school's Palm Beach County campus will remained closed on Thursday. Instruction will be online/virtual only.

Everglades University

The school announced that its Boca Raton campus would be closed Wednesday and Thursday.

AMC West Palm Beach 12

The AMC Theatre at The Square is currently closed due to weather from Hurricane Ian. Please check back here for updates.

Town of Palm Beach Municipal Beach

The town has closed public access to its beaches and no lifeguards will be present until conditions improve. Town employees will monitor the accesses to try and prevent people from going onto the beach. For full story, click here.

Publix

The grocery chain currently has no store closures in Palm Beach County as shown on their interactive map. There are stores in Indian River and Okeechobee Counties that are showing modified hours. To view map, click here.

Norton Museum of Art

All three KIDZ Pediatric Centers in Palm Beach County will be closed on Wednesday.

Mounts Botanical Garden

Downtown West Palm Beach Trolley Service

The Downtown Development Authority said all trolley service throughout downtown West Palm Beach should resume on Thursday.

Palm Beach International Airport

Duffy's: All locations in Palm Beach County are closed on Wednesday.

Cactus Grille and Tequila Bar in Palm Beach Gardens: The months-old restaurant posted this to Instagram: “For the safety of our staff and patrons, we have decided to close for Wednesday. Stay safe & dry!”

All Little Moir’s restaurants in Jupiter (Food Shack, Leftovers and Hibiscus StrEATery): Closed closed Wednesday. The restaurant family posted this message to social media: “With the safety of our staff and customers in mind, we will be closed today. We are sending our thoughts and prayers to our friends on the west coast… stay safe everyone!”

Ela Curry Kitchen: The new Indian restaurant in Palm Beach Gardens will be closed Wednesday. They are planning to reopen Thursday. “Stay safe and hope to see you tomorrow when we will be open for dine-in, take-out and delivery,” said a message on the restaurant’s Instagram page.

Stage Kitchen: The Indian-inspired restaurant in Palm Beach Gardens is closed Wednesday, but reopens Thursday.

Flavors Island: The West Palm Beach Haitian restaurant is closed Wednesday and reopens at 11 a.m. Thursday.

Cucina Cabana: The North Palm Beach restaurant and entertainment lounge is closed Wednesday due to the storm. According to its social media, Cucina Cabana will be open Thursday for its “Girls Night Out” night featuring singer Ray Chang and half-price drinks.

Deck 84: Closed for lunch and dinner Wednesday. Closing at 3 p.m.

Pagoda Kitchen: Closed for lunch Wednesday. Opening for dinner at 4:30 p.m., but planning to close around 8 p.m. dependent on volume.

Burt & Max’s: Reopened Wednesday with plans to stay open until around 8 p.m. dependent on volume.

Max’s Grille: Reopened Wednesday with plans to stay open until around 8 p.m. dependent on volume.

Topside at the Beacon: The rooftop bar and lounge is closed Wednesday. Reopening tentative on storm.

Brule Bistro: Will be closed Wednesday.

Hurricane Bar and Lounge: Will be open and hosting a hurricane party Wednesday.

Pollo Tropical: The chain announced that they closed all of their locations in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and would reopen after the storm passes and they deem it safe.

SunPass Customer Service and Walk-In Center

The Boca Raton location at 7941 Glades Road is closed Wednesday.

Brightline

Brightline will operate rail service on a modified schedule with 12 departures for Wednesday. Brightline stations including West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and MiamiCentral will remain open with essential guest services. There will be no onboard service or baggage service, but a train attendant will be onboard for the safety of the guests. Guests are encouraged to monitor Brightline on Twitter as well as gobrightline.com for real-time schedule and service updates.

Ian updates in Palm Beach County: Tolls suspended, commuter rail; bus operations continue

Tri-Rail

Tri-Rail currently has not canceled any transportation services. Tri-Rail spokesperson Victor Garcia said that the company would start making plans to shut down the railroad when winds are forecasted to go above 35 mph.

Palm Tran

There will be no Palm Tran or Palm Tran Connection Wednesday or Thursday due to Hurricane Ian.

Port of Palm Beach

Port Condition Zulu is in effect and the port is shut down and will remain closed until further notice. It will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so. Port Condition Zulu means sustained gale force winds are expected to arrive within twelve hours.

Palm Beach County Drawbridges

The Florida Department of Transportation is locking down drawbridges in Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie counties for the duration of Hurricane Ian. Bridges will remain open to car traffic. Mariners should check the Coast Guard notice to mariners for updates and more information here.

Government offices

Juno Beach: Town offices are open Wednesday.

Jupiter: Town Hall and all town parks will be closed Wednesday.

Palm Beach Gardens: City Hall will be open Wednesday, but all parks and recreation areas will be closed.

North Palm Beach: Village offices were scheduled to be open Wednesday.

Lake Park: All town offices inlucding Town Hall, the library, the Lake Park Harbor Marina and the public works department are closed Wednesday and Thursday.

Riviera Beach: The city has closed all municipal facilities and suspended the collection of garbage, recyclining and yard waste for Wednesday.

Wellington: Village Hall and all parks and recreational facilities, including the Wellington Aquatics and Tennis Center, are closed. Visit Wellingtonfl.gov/parks for updates.

Royal Palm Beach: Village offices were scheduled to be open Wednesday.

Greenacres: City Hall is closed Wednesday and will reopen Thursday.

Lake Worth Beach: The city has closed the following locations until further notice: William Lockhart Pier, City Library, Golf Course, City Hall, City Hall Annex, 1900 2nd Ave Offices, Leisure Services Office, Parking Division Office and PBSO District 14 Headquarters.

Lantana: All town offices, parks and facilities will be closed Wednesday and Thursday.

Delray Beach: City Hall, all parks, golf courses, tennis facilities and community centers will be closed Wednesday.

Belle Glade: City Hall will be closed Wednesday and Thursday.

Pahokee: City Hall will be closed Wednesday and Thursday.

Palm Beach County offices: All county offices, including courthouses and health clinics, will be closed on Thursday. First-appearance hearings will take place at the Palm Beach County Jail.

Palm Beach County Tax Collector: The Constitutional Tax Collector’s office will be closed Wednesday. Offices will reopen once it is determined that all locations are safe and that travel is safe for employees and the public.

Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller offices: Will be closed on Thursday due to Hurricane Ian. Anyone needing to pay a traffic ticket, file court documents, purchase certified copies of court or official records or make child support or alimony payments in Palm Beach County should use the Clerk’s online services.

The Health Care District of Palm Beach County: All C. L. Brumback Primary Care Clinics and pharmacies will be closed Wednesday. The district’s Belle Glade hospital, Lakeside Medical Center and skilled nursing facility, the Edward J. Healey Rehabilitation Center, as well as ground ambulance and Trauma Hawk aeromedical programs remain operational as per their procedures.

Federal offices: Most are closed, including Social Security offices across South Florida.

Federal courts: They are closed across South Florida on Wednesday.

Trash pickup in Palm Beach County

All Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County facilities and offices are closed Wednesday, due to forecasted tropical storm force winds. Lion Country Safari

The popular animal park was closed on Wednesday. Palm Beach Zoo

The zoo is closed Thursday but will reopen Friday.

Zoo personnel have moved some of their tropical birds into hurricane-safe habitats. Cox Science Center

Due to Hurricane Ian, the Luke Bryan concert slated for Friday has been rescheduled for Nov. 4. The venue said they would be making a decision regarding the Alice in Chains and Breaking Benjamin show scheduled for Saturday in the coming days. Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens

Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach will be closed Wednesday and will reopen when it is safe to resume regular operations. 4000 Morikami Park Road, Delray Beach. Information: www.morikami.org

The Town of Jupiter

The town has suspended all parks and recreation programs until further notice ahead of Hurricane Ian. This decision applies both to programs in town parks and at the Jupiter Community Center. It applies to Jupiter-Tequesta Athletic Association activities adult athletic leagues, classes and drop-in activities as well.

Veterans Information Fair

The event scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday at the South County Civic Center in Delray Beach has been postponed. County Commissioner Maria Sachs, the event's sponsor, said the event will be rescheduled for a later date. 16700 Jog Road, Delray Beach. Major closing outside Palm Beach County:

Busch Gardens

"To ensure the safety of our ambassadors, guests and animals as Hurricane Ian moves through Florida, Busch Gardens will be closed through Thursday, Sept. 29," the Tampa theme park posted on Twitter Tuesday. The safari-inspired park houses a wide array of animals, including penguins, lions and giraffes. In an email to annual pass holders, Busch Gardens said all tickets for canceled dates would be automatically extended through the end of the year. Walt Disney World Resort

Disney World has rarely closed for severe weather in its five decades of operation, but all four of its main theme parks will close Wednesday and Thursday. Disney Springs will also close Wednesday and likely remain closed Thursday.

Universal Orlando

Universal Studios Florida, Universal's Islands of Adventure, Universal's Volcano Bay water park and CityWalk will be closed Wednesday and Thursday. Halloween Horror Nights are canceled Wednesday and Thursday nights. Universal Orlando plans to reopen Friday "as conditions permit."

SeaWorld Orlando

SeaWorld Orlando, Aquatica Orlando and Discovery Cove will be closed Wednesday and Thursday. All tickets for Wednesday and Thursday have been extended through the end of the year. Annual pass member guest tickets expiring Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 have been extended through Oct. 16.

LEGOLAND Florida

LEGOLAND Florida, LEGOLAND Water Park and Peppa Pig Theme Park will be closed Wednesday and Thursday. Hotel guests with existing reservations will be allowed to stay, according to the resort's website. The resort told USA TODAY any park tickets dated for Wednesday through Sunday will automatically be extended through the end of the year, and vacation stays for canceled dates may be rebooked without penalty.
