HURRICANE IAN: St. Johns County schools, government offices reopen Monday, Oct. 3

All St. Johns County government offices including those under the Board of County Commissioners, the City of St. Augustine, the City of St. Augustine Beach, the Supervisor of Elections, Clerk of Courts, Tax Collector, Property Appraiser and St. Johns County schools will reopen on Monday, Oct. 3.

Storm information

Water distribution

St. Johns County is distributing water from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at four locations. Water distribution will be limited to two cases of water per car.

Garbage collection

Normal collections for household garbage, recycling and yard debris will resume Monday, Oct. 3 for St. Johns County.

In addition, residential and commercial waste collection for the City of St. Augustine and the City of St. Augustine Beach is expected to resume when conditions allow.

Parks damage assessment

St. Johns County Parks and Recreation staff is assessing and evaluating damage and condition of parks, athletic fields, boat ramps, playgrounds and facilities. All grass multipurpose, baseball, and softball fields remain closed until Monday, Oct. 3. Residents are asked to allow staff time to assess all County facilities to ensure that any downed trees and storm debris are cleared and any damage is repaired for safety.

Power outages

Most customers have had power restored in St. Johns County. As of noon Saturday, less than 100 residents were without power. That is about 0.07% of all customers, all from Florida Power & Light. Overall, less than 1.3 million customers are without power in Florida.
