Hurricane Kay expected to bring rain, wind and temps in the 70s to the High Desert

As excessive heat continues to batter the High Desert, Hurricane Kay’s approach near the Baja California Peninsula may bring some rain, wind and temperatures in the 70s.

The effects of Kay are expected to roll into Southern California on Friday and into the weekend, with the Victor Valley picking up about an inch of rain, according to The National Weather Service.

The NWS on Wednesday tracked Kay about 200 miles southwest of Cabo San Lucas and expected the hurricane to reach a point about 150 miles southwest of San Diego on Friday.

High temperatures in the low 90s are expected on Friday in places like Apple Valley, Hesperia and Victorville. On Saturday, highs are expected in the high 70s.

Tracking Kay

Cooler sea-surface temperatures and drier air will weaken Kay as it continues its trek north, then moves west south of Southern California this weekend.

Heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding and landslides across the Baja California peninsula and portions of mainland northwestern Mexico through Saturday morning.

Flash and urban flooding are possible across the peninsular ranges of Southern California and southwestern Arizona on Friday night into Saturday.

Hurricane conditions are expected along portions of the west-central Baja California coast on Thursday and Thursday night, with a hurricane warning in that area.
