Hurricane Nicole: What's open and closed in Palm Beach County, including schools

Hurricane Nicole made landfall in North Hutchinson Island overnight. The storm has been downgraded to a tropical storm and is currently working it's way north and west across the state.

Here's what's open and closed from Jupiter to Boca Raton.

Palm Beach County Schools

Palm Beach County schools reopened Friday, Nov. 11 after Hurricane Nicole forced a two-day closure of the district's 180 campuses.

Florida Atlantic University

All FAU campuses will remain closed on Friday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day.

Palm Beach State College

All PBSC campuses are closed Friday, Nov. 11.

Palm Beach Atlantic University

In-person classes have been canceled at the school's West Palm Beach campus for the remainder of the week due to Tropical Storm Nicole. Students can expect professors to communicate via Canvas on how course content will be delivered.

Nova Southeastern University

The school's Palm Beach Regional Campus has reopened for Friday, Nov. 11.

Everglades University

The university's Boca Raton campus will be closed Friday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day.

Lynn University

All classes and activities will resume normal operations Friday, Nov. 11..

Palm Beach County Parks & Recreation

Due to expected impacts from Tropical Storm Nicole, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10556 and the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department/Special Events Section has made the decision to cancel the 2022 Veterans Day programming at Veteran’s Memorial Park (located at 9400 W. Palmetto Park Road) that was scheduled for Friday, Nov. 11. For information: www.pbcparks.com

Port of Palm Beach

Waterside restrictions have been partially lifted as of Friday, Nov. 11. Vessels cannot exceed 400’ in length or have a draft greater than 20’. Information: https://www.portofpalmbeach.com/

Palm Beach County Drawbridges

The Florida Department of Transportation, along with the U.S. Coast Guard, is locking down state drawbridges in Broward, Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie Counties. They will remain closed for the duration of the severe weather.

Government offices

Jupiter: Town Hall, Community Center, Jupiter Community Park, Cinquez Park, and Abacoa Community Park will be closed and non-essential services will be suspended Thursday, Nov. 10. Additionally, all athletic fields and facilities within the Town of Jupiter will also be closed.

Palm Beach Gardens: City hall is closed Thursday, Nov. 10. In addition, Burns Road Community Center, PBG Tennis & Pickleball Center, Sandhill Crane Golf Club, and City Parks will be closed Thursday, Nov. 10. The Aquatics Center will reopen on Friday, Nov. 11 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Lake Park: All town offices are closed Friday, Nov. 11.

Wellington: Village offices closed at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9. All Wellington Parks & Recreation programming is Wednesday, Nov. 9 and the Wellington Tennis Center is closed Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Royal Palm Beach: All village offices are closed except the Village Clerk's Office and lobby on Wednesday, Nov. 9. All RPB Parks and Recreation facilities are closed Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Greenacres: All city facilities, including city parks and fields, are closed Thursday, Nov. 10. The Let's Talk Conversation scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 9 has been postponed. The new date is TBD.

Lake Worth Beach: The William Lockhart Pier, city library, the golf course, city hall, city hall annex, 1900 Second Ave. offices, leisure services office, parking division office, PBSO District 14 Headquarters and Lake Worth Beach Complex (including all shops and restaurants) will remain closed Thursday, Nov. 10 and Friday, Nov. 11. The city commission pre-agenda meeting, all recreational sports practices and club create are canceled until further notice.

Lantana: All town facilities, including parks, the library and the Lantana Beach, will be closed to the public Thursday, Nov. 10 and Friday, Nov. 11. The Veterans Day Celebration has been moved to Town Hall Council Chambers.

Delray Beach: The Delray Beach Golf Club, Lakeview Golf Course, Delray Beach Tennis Center, and Delray Swim & Tennis will be closed on Wednesday, Nov. 9. The city's Veterans Day Ceremony has also been canceled. Garbage, recycling, bulk, and trash collection services will be suspended on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Boca Raton: All city facilities, beaches and parks will be closed Thursday, Nov. 10. City sanitation services have been suspended for Thursday, Nov. 10.

The Health Care District of Palm Beach County: The district’s offices, all C. L. Brumback Primary Care Clinics and pharmacies are closed Thursday, Nov. 10. Clinic patients can request virtual visits by calling 561-642-1000. The district’s offices and clinics will be closed Friday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day. The district's Belle Glade hospital, Lakeside Medical Center, and skilled nursing facility, the Edward J. Healey Rehabilitation Center, as well as ground ambulance and Trauma Hawk aeromedical programs, remain operational as per their procedures.

Norton Museum of Art

The museum anticipates reopening on Friday, Nov. 11. Information: https://www.norton.org/
