Hurricane Zeta Remnants To Bring Heavy Rain, Possible Snow To CT

CONNECTICUT — It's going to be an interesting end of the week concerning the weather forecast for Connecticut. Everyone agrees that the remnants of Hurricane Zeta will bring heavy rain to Connecticut on Thursday afternoon and it's quite possible areas of the state may see their first snowflakes late Thursday and Friday as temperatures crash.

WTNH News 8 Chief Meteorologist Gil Simmons said, "Rain on Thursday changing over to some wet snow for Friday. A couple of inches possible across the interior with a shoreline mix! I will be watching this closely! Cold weather for Halloween 2020!"

Fox 61 Meteorologist Rachel Piscitelli adds, "Still far out but Thursday night and Friday look .... wet. Heavy rain (which will help our growing drought), gusty winds and the potential for our first snowflakes of the season."

"By Wednesday night clouds will increase ahead of the next storm system which is expected to arrive and bring rain to the region on Thursday," the weather service said. The heaviest rain is forecast to fall Thursday night and in the early morning hours of Friday. Up to 2 inches of rain is possible.

The rain could cause some flooding, the weather service cautions. The weather service said interior sections of southern Connecticut have the best odds of seeing snow Friday night. Temperatures will fall into the 20s on Friday night.

"Did you hear it may snow on Friday?" the weather service said concerning northern parts of the state. "Yes, it's true, Thursday night into Friday brings what is appearing to be our first shot at some wintry weather for the season. Exciting! However, it's not at all cut and dry, nor is it a certainty."

First, the remnants of Zeta will bring a "soaking rain, then potential for a changeover to wet snow." In fact, one model shows there is a 50 percent chance of 1 inch or more of snow in higher elevations. There is also a chance there could be some sleet or freezing rain too, the weather service cautions.

"However, what we are fairly certain of at this point is that the Thursday-Friday timeframe will be wet and likely quite windy as well," the weather service said. Strong winds are expected too.

Friday night will be very cold with temps down into the mid-20s.
