Hurricanes’ Chris Graves Jr., a former four-star prospect, announces plans to transfer

Chris Graves Jr. arrived at Miami as a touted prospect, but he is leaving without having had many chances to show his talent on the field.

The former four-star prospect has entered the transfer portal, he announced on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon.

Graves, a Fort Myers native and Bishop Verot alumnus, was rated the No. 7 athlete and No. 161 player in the 2022 class by 247Sports’ composite ranking. He was the sixth-highest-rated player in UM coach Mario Cristobal’s first class at Miami.

However, he did not see the field much as a true freshman. Graves played only three defensive snaps last season, all of which came against Bethune-Cookman in Miami’s season-opening win. He also played one snap on special teams in that game. He is listed as a redshirt freshman on UM’s roster.

Graves is the 22nd player to leave the Hurricanes via the transfer portal this offseason. He is the eighth defensive back to leave, along with Al Blades Jr., Isaiah Dunson, Gilbert Frierson, Jalen Harrell, Khaumari Rogers, Keshawn Washington, and Avantae Williams. He is also the second member of the 2022 recruiting class to leave, along with Rogers.
