Husband dead, wife injured after car leaves I-75, crashes down embankment

Feb. 22—One person is dead and another injured after their car left I-75 North near Bells Ferry Road and tumbled down an embankment early Wednesday, according to the Marietta Police Department.

Edgar Perez, 45, and his wife, Blanca Manriquez-Rodriguez, 43, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, were traveling north on the freeway at about 5:30 a.m. when Manriquez-Rodriguez, who was driving, lost control of the 2016 Toyota Sienna minivan, said Officer Chuck McPhilamy, spokesman for the Marietta Police Department.

The van "struck the right guardrail, flipped over it and tumbled down a large embankment toward Bells Ferry Lane," according to McPhilamy.

Perez died as a result of the crash, while Manrique-Rodriguez was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries, McPhilamy said.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact Investigator N. St. Onge at 770-794-5352.
