Husband Wins The Internet For Having His Pinky Painted To Replace Wife’s Lost One

Grab the tissues and the waterproof mascara because this sweet little love story is about to do some major tugging on the old heartstrings.

When Libby Sanders met her now husband Matt on a blind date six years ago, she knew he was pretty special. But now the Internet knows it too thanks to a seemingly casual offer to have his little finger painted. Confused?

Bear with us, we’ll explain. A couple of months ago, Libby lost part of her pinky finger in an accident with a sliding door.

Understandably the mum-of-five is still getting used to life without her little digit, and she still tends to forget it’s no longer there. So when she went to paint her nails earlier this week and was reminded of the fact she’ll never get to paint her pinky again, her husband stepped in to offer his up as a surrogate. Awww!

Taking to Facebook to share Matt’s sweet gesture Libby posted an image of their two hands together with Matt’s little nail painted the same vivid green as her other fingers.

“This is who I married….,” she wrote. “I was painting my nails and made a comment that I forget I don’t have to paint my pinky nail on my left hand. I simply forget that I lost my pinky, but it is always kind of a bummer when I am reminded. Matt said “I will be your surrogate pinky. You can paint my pinky to match your nails for the rest of our lives” And so we did….”

“I cannot imagine a sweeter, kinder man. No words adequately describe our love,” Libby, a student nurse, finished the post.

And now Matt’s literally melting hearts all over the Internet, as since posting Libby’s story has been shared over 121,055 times and received hundreds of comments from people touched by Matt’s sweet gesture.

“I love everything about this. That’s a once in a lifetime kind of love,” one woman wrote.

“Sweetest thing ever!” agreed another.

“LOVE!!! Men who are truly in love with their beautiful wives are the best. They’re hard to find, aren’t they?”

But the fact the photo has gone viral has taken Libby by surprise.

“When I posted it I didn’t feel like I was being brave or being a voice for amputees,” she said in an email to Today. “However, I have received multiple messages saying that this post made people’s day, or that they also are an amputee and it made them feel better knowing that true love exists and that someone will love them, missing parts and all."
