Is a Hustler store opening in Shreveport? Here's what the planning commission says

Alan Clarke with the Metropolitan Planning Commission stood in front of the Shreveport City Council Tuesday afternoon to discuss a business opening in the Financial Plaza in West Shreveport.

This business caused concern for two council members prompting Clarke to investigate this proposed store.

"Yesterday we got a call from both you (Councilman Jerry Bowman) and Councilwoman Tabitha Taylor concerning an operation or business opening," said Clarke. "It was the first time we had heard the business opening, so I didn't have a lot of information about Hustler Hollywood."

Hustler Hollywood is an adult retail store that offers a wide range of lingerie, erotica, sex toys and novelties. This store was set to open in the old IHOP restaurant located at 6109 Financial Plaza, near Huntington High School.

"The situation is they have not done anything as of yet," said Clarke. " We will get a chance to evaluate what they can do once they stock the actual facility and we determine the percentage of inventory."

Clarke said that the MPC is doing everything it can but it may have to reassess the ordinances in the Unified Development Code and the Code of Ordinances for the city of Shreveport. "We need to prevent these types of negative things from happening in neighborhoods," said Clarke.
