Hyannis Open Streets festival offers a whole lot of fun with games, food, face-painting

HYANNIS − Five-year-old Daniel Coughlin made giant bubbles grow while standing in the middle of what is normally a busy street.

On Sunday afternoon, downtown Hyannis became a playground, when Main Street between Ocean and Sea streets was shut down to cars. Instead, pedestrians, skaters, dancers and more filled the road as part of Hyannis Open Streets. Coughlin's mother said they attend every event.

Presented by Greater Hyannis Area Civic Association with support from the Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District and the Greater Hyannis Chamber of Commerce, the event sees families and pedestrians taking to the street and sidewalk for nearly half a mile.
