Hyde10: Ten reactions (”Wow!”) to Tyler Herro’s historic night

Tyler Herro had a game to remember - a game like Dolphins rookie Dan Marino had in 1983, like the Marlins’ Miguel Cabrera had in 2003, as I wrote in my column.

Here are 10 reaction to the Miami Heat rookie’s 37-point night in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals.:

1. Tyler Herro is not Stephen Curry, said Curry’s former Golden State teammate Andre Iguodala, now with the Heat. He’s not Curry. But ...

"I won’t compare them, but they definitely have … I’m trying for the right word,'' Iguodala said. "The way they can handle the ball and get into their shots, Tyler shows some resemblances there. I’m not saying they’re the same. But there are some resemblances in that he can get to his shot pocket off the dribble and off the shoot and catch, which is rare—that guys have both of those features in their games.”

2. ESPN’s Vince Carter: “I look at the stats - 37 points, 14-of-21 from the field. The Miami heat have instilled confidence in that young man. He was playing like was back in that small town in Milwaukee, like he was the go-to guy at Kentucky. You didn’t say any hesitation. They weren’t saying, ‘Oh, we’ve got to get the ball to Jimmy Walker. We’ve got to get the ball to Bam Adebayo. Our All Stars.’ They were playing through him.”

3. Dwyane Wade tweeted: “What I love about what Herro Ball is doing... We all know this isn’t just a hot game. This is how he plays the game of basketball.”

4. Goran Dragic in hugging Herro after the rookie’s ESPN interview: “I LOVE YOU, TYLER!”

5. The Athletic’s senior columnist John Hollinger tweeted as Herro grew hot: “Let’s not bother running a play and just iso this 20 year old rookie against Marcus Smart.”

6. Tyler Herro on himself: “I’m just going to bet on myself. I’ve been doing that my whole life. I came from a small town in Miwaukee, and went to Kentucky. No one thought I’d survive there. And nobody thought I’d survive here. At the end of the day, betting on myself.”

7. Rookie of the year Ja Morant tweeted out a video of, “Tyler Herro and Jimmy Butler in the locker room after going up 3-1.”

8. ESPN’s Tim Legler: “He’s got that rare quality for a young player where everything in front of him, all the action, slows down for him. I thought he basically ended the game with a couple of late plays ... a lot of players might take two or three years to develop like Tyler Herro has in this series.”

9. Former Heat and Kentucky player Rex Chapman remembered: "The first day i ever met Tyler Herro I asked him, “Why did you de-commit from Wisconsin to go to Kentucky?” He said, “Cal. I’m trying to win a title and go to the league.” (That’s Kentucky coach John Calipari.)

10. Utah star Donovan Mitchell had one word: “Wow!”
