Classroom activities at Hyre middle school were suspended for about an hour Friday after a student told a school resource office that he thought another student may have had a weapon, according to Mark Williamson, spokesman for Akron Public Schools.

Williamson said the incident took place around 2 p.m. After the SRO was alerted, the school was placed on lockdown and every student was run through a metal detector. Williamson said just after 3 p.m. that no weapon was found and the lockdown was lifted.

The school, located in Akron's Ellet neighborhood, serves about 800 students in 6th to 8th grade.
