‘I was lost for a very long time.’ How two post-9/11 veterans found healing and support through community

Michael “CQ” Carrasquillo and King Smith are more than friends — they’re family. Though the two medically-retired veterans have different stories around their service and struggles, they have found strength and support in showing up for each other. “At the end of the day, we all experience trauma, regardless of how it came into our lives,” CQ says, “but we can work together to get each other to the best versions of ourselves we can be.”
