North - who made a big impression on viewers of the ITV reality show from the very first episode when he vomited abseiling down a cliff in the very first challenge - returned to his happy place for his final challenge of the series.

As snakes began to fill the cage he screamed: “Oh god, it’s a snake. Happy place. Happy place! I’m going to be drinking gin with Bev in Spain.”

The 30-year-old Radio One presenter was talking about reunited with fellow contestant, former Coronation Street star Beverley Callard, 63.

The DJ first revealed that his brother had advised him to think of his happy place to get through the trials when he faced snakes in one of the first trials of the series.

North, who grew up in Burnley, had previously said his happy place was Turf Moor - the home stadium of his favourite football team Burnley FC.

Finalists North, TV presenter Vernon Kay, 46, and author Giovanna Fletcher, 35, all took part in individual trials in order to win a luxury meal for their final night in the castle.

TV presenter Vernon Kay won the starters for the final meal by being strapped down to a table for 10 minutes and covered with rotting food and live cockroaches and spider scorpions.

After complaining about the smell, hosts Ant and Dec told Kay that EastEnders actor Shane Richie had accused him of being the “phantom dribbler” in the toilet.

Kay insisted: “It wasn’t me, it was Shane or Jordan.”

He successfully endured the full ten minutes and won all the starters and drinks for the meal, bit told Ant and Dec: “That was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I hated the cockroaches!”

Author wife of McFly’s Tom Fletcher Giovanna Fletcher, 35, ate fermented duck egg, a cow’s nose, raw fish eye, sheep’s testicle and bull’s penis in order to win the main courses.
