IAEA to expand presence across Ukrainian nuclear facilities

“We continue working together towards the urgent establishment of a nuclear safety & security protection zone around Zaporizhzhia NPP,” he said.
Grossi confirmed that the IAEA will increase its presence at all nuclear power plants in Ukraine, in order to protect the Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on that in order to maintain nuclear safety, Russian troops must leave the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP.

On Nov. 23, due to Russian strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure, the majority of electricity consumers in the country have lost power. The power units of all nuclear power plants that are under Ukrainian control were temporarily stopped, while Zaporizhzhia NPP went into full blackout mode.

Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, and has been occupied by Russian forces since March 4. Several ZNPP facilities have been damaged by Russian shelling, and the station's employees are captives of the occupying troops.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has since established a permanent monitoring presence at the facility.
