Sir Ian McKellen's made his name with some iconic performances across stage and screen during his long and varied career. Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies, Magneto in X-Men, Sherlock Holmes, King Lear... it's one heck of a list.

And who could forget his iconic guest appearance as a novelist/con artist on Coronation Street in the mid-2000s?

Earlier this year, Ian went on a UK tour to celebrate his 80th birthday – Ian McKellen on Stage with Tolkien, Shakespeare, Others and You is a one-man show reflecting on his life and career to date.

And now, he's announced a further 80 shows in the West End at London's Harold Pinter Theatre.

"Taking this new show to 80+ theatres around the country has been a joyful birthday present to myself," he said. "I've played mainly in theatres I knew well as a young theatregoer and actor.

"On my birthday, I was in Bolton Town Hall where my dad used to work. It began last February with 15 theatres in Greater London and will end in Orkney.

"Soon I will be back in London, for a limited season in the West End, raising much-needed funds for theatre charities."

ATG's website says there's no booking fee for the show, but states that all bookings made for the Pinter Theatre are subject to a £3.65 transaction fee.

If you're interested in afternoon shows, there's a 2.30pm performance on Saturdays and a 3pm performance on Sundays. If you're after an evening event, then there will be performances at 7.30pm on Tuesdays to Saturdays.
