New Iberia man charged with depositing $50K in bad checks

NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY) — A New Iberia man has been arrested and accused of passing approximately $50,000 worth of fraudulent checks, authorities said.

Darriyonus Collette, 19, of New Iberia is charged with bank fraud and monetary instrument abuse, according to New Iberia police.

Authorities said New Iberia Police were called to a local financial institution in the 2700 block of La. 14 to investigate an incident involving fraudulent checks. Officers were informed that an individual had deposited fraudulent checks on two separate occasions totaling approximately $50,000.

Collette was identified as a suspect, located and arrested without incident, police said.

A search warrant was issued for a residence located in the 1000 block of French Street, where officers located and seized items used to produce fraudulent checks, authorities said.

Collette was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail. Bond details were not released.
