IBHE funds $400 million to 45 private colleges in Illinois
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Illinois Board of Higher Education is giving $400 million to 45 private not-for-profit higher education institutions in Illinois. The grant is from the Independent Colleges Capital Investment Grant Program.
Some of the funds will go to Central Illinois colleges like Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois College in Jacksonville, and Bradley University in Peoria.
Officials say the goal of the grant is to fund construction, repair and renovations to foster better learning experiences for students across the state.

As per state law, the funds were based on a base grant on Fall 2017 enrollment numbers and Full Time Equivalent grant on Fall 2022 enrollment numbers. The institutions are were required to also create an equity plan to help students historically underrepresented in higher education.
“Adequate campus facilities and infrastructure are important in ensuring our students have equitable learning experiences,” IBHE Executive Director Ginger Ostro said. “Private institutions are a valuable part of Illinois’ higher education ecosystem, and these funds will help institutions complement the work to close equity gaps outlined in each institution’s equity plan.”
