Ice cream season is here. Where to get yours in Wayne, Holmes and Ashland counties
As spring moves forward and thoughts turn to those hot summer days ahead, many can't fight the inevitable hankering for ice cream.
But, where to go?
The choices are endless in the tri-county area as are the flavors.
Our list is just a sampling of what's out there. Come along with us on an ice cream tour of Wayne, Holmes and Ashland counties.
Salted caramel ice cream rules in Holmes County
MILLER'S CREAMERY
Location: West Jackson and South Washington streets in Millersburg
Times: Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Favorite: Salted caramel
MAIN STREET FUDGE AND POPCORN
Location: Main Street in Berlin
Times: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Closed on Sundays.
Favorite: Salted Caramel Truffle
DAIRY QUEEN
Location: 4714 state Route 39, Millersburg
Times: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Favorite: Blizzards
Here's the scoop on ice cream in Wayne County
LEM'S PIZZA
Location: 110 N. Mill St.
Favorites: Flurries, sundaes and shakes
Times: Open year-round with winter and summer hours. Summer hours: Monday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sunday from 1 to 9 p.m.
Toppings include candy like Reese's and Snickers, Oreos and hot fudge. Other menu options include pizza and sub sandwiches.
Location: 3004 Dover Road, Wooster
Hours: Open from March through December, Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Favorites: Known for deep-fried coney dogs. Also offers hot dogs, burgers and both soft serve and scooped ice cream in six to eight flavors. Flavors change throughout the year.
Location: 546 W Main St., Apple Creek
Hours: 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., except Sundays, which are noon to 8 p.m.
Favorites: Between 16 and 20 flavors of house-made hand-dipped ice cream. Chocolate and vanilla soft serve with a rotating third flavor each week. Homemade sundae toppings. Other sweet treats are floats, slushies and milkshakes. Burgers, hot dogs, chicken dishes and a variety of sides.
HARTZLER DAIRY
Location: 5454 Cleveland Road, Wooster
Hours: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Favorites: Ice cream and ice cream cakes in a variety of flavors and sizes. Roughly 13 “staple” ice cream flavors are offered along with several rotating and season flavors. Ice cream is available in pint and quart sizes, while cake is available in small, medium, large and sheet sizes with a minimum of three business days required for orders.
DARI-LAND
Locations: 306 W Liberty St., Wooster and 736 E Main St., Smithville
Hours: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Sunday, with summer hours of 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. starting closer to May.
Favorites: Various foods, such as burgers, fries and hot dogs, are available but they are most known for their ice cream treats. Ice cream, which comes in over 20 flavors, can be served in a cone or as a shake or flurry.
Hand-dipped treats await in Ashland County
Location: 601 Claremont Ave.
Times: Monday through Sunday 2 to 8 p.m.
Favorites: Creative offerings featuring vanilla and chocolate custard. The yogurts come in many different flavors. Coming this summer is cotton candy for the kids. Salted caramel pretzel and cookies 'n' cream. Up to 65 toppings.
Location: 428 Parkside Drive
Times: Monday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Favorites: Hand-dipped ice cream, shakes and banana splits
MIFFLIN DAIRY BAR
Location: 37 Maine St.
Times: Monday through Thursday noon to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday noon to 9 p.m.; Sunday noon to 8 p.m.; Closed on Wednesdays
Favorites: Soft-serve cones, artic swirls, subs and coneys
IDA'S DAIRY
Location: 101 S. Bridge St., Perrysville
Times: Friday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Favorites: Floats & tornados, sundaes and milkshakes
STELA'S ICE CREAM SHOPPE & COFFEE HOUSE
Location: 211 W. Main St., Loudonville
Times: Sunday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Favorites: White Lightning and Grand Central Street flavored ice creams.
