New ice cream and waffles concept opens up in south Springfield

Swirly's Ice Cream and Waffles owners Jack and Kenzie Powderly are opening a new food truck at 3867 S. Campbell Ave. in Springfield's Parkcrest Village shopping center.

The grand opening is scheduled for Saturday.

Swirly's is bringing its new ice cream and waffle concept to Springfield. Swirly's Ice Cream and Waffles serves vanilla or chocolate as your ice cream base and then gives you the option to choose from more than 40 different toppings such as cereals, candies, baked goods, nuts, and fruits. Then it's all combined with a crisp and fluffy bubble waffle.

This concept of Swirly's started when Jack and Kenzie Powderly were on vacation and had a taste of another ice cream shop using the swirl freeze machine, which is what mixes up the ice cream and toppings. After experiencing the ice cream creations, the couple knew it would be a hit in Springfield.

Jack Powderly owns and operates Swirly's Ice Cream and Waffles at 3867 S. Campbell Ave. with his wife Kenzie Powderly.

Jack Powderly told the News-Leader that they are enjoying the moment serving customers and working on the truck but also said that they really haven't soaked up the moment and can't wait to see things full circle.

Swirly's Ice Cream and Waffles is open Tuesday and Thursday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
