* Jan. 21-22: 2023 Clam Trap Attack virtual ice fishing tournament, 12:10 a.m. CST on Jan. 21 through 11:59 p.m. CST on Jan. 29. Open to anyone in the U.S. or Canada targeting northern pike, walleyes, sunfish, yellow perch, crappies and lake trout. Registration fee is $10, and tournament will be run throug the Fish Donkey app, available for Apple and Android phones.

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department has scheduled its fall series of advisory board meetings across the state. The department is mandated to hold the public meetings twice a year in each of the state's eight advisory board districts. Meetings got underway Nov. 28, and remaining meetings are as follows:
* Dec. 5: District 3 (Benson, Cavalier, Eddy, Ramsey, Rolette and Towner counties), 7 p.m., Eagles Club, 7 Eighth St. S., New Rockford, N.D. Eddy County Rod and Gun Club is host. Info: Duane Duda, (701) 302-0510; advisory board member is Edward Dosch, Devils Lake.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is continuing its series of hunting, fishing and outdoor learning webinars this winter. The webinars, which are free, begin at noon Wednesdays, and pre-registration is required at
. Webinars also are recorded and available online. Upcoming webinars are as follows:
* Dec. 7: "Rabbit hunting." Tune in for some tips and ideas on rabbit hunting and preparation, both in the field and in the kitchen.
* Dec. 14: "Training your hunting puppy." From picking out a puppy to basic obedience to retrieving that first bird, diehard bird hunter Tina Dokken will share her journey with her new hunting pup.
* Dec. 21: "Snowmobiling in Minnesota." Wade Miller, DNR state trails snowmobile consultant, will talk about how to get started in snowmobiling, where to go and what you need to know to try this fun wintertime activity.
* Dec. 28: "Winter sturgeon fishing." DNR fisheries specialists Joel Stiras and Tony Sindt will talk about sturgeon management and how to catch this prehistoric fish through the ice.
* Jan. 4: "Camp planning and cooking." Jason Jech, executive director of the Red Wing (Minnesota) Environmental Learning Center, will share tips and tricks about what to bring, what not to bring and ultimately how to become an outdoor gourmet.
* Jan. 11: "Ice fishing for lake trout." Scott Mackenthun, an avid ice angler and Minnesota DNR fisheries supervisor in Hutchinson, will give a rundown of the state's lake trout fishing opportunities and some helpful information on lake trout biology. He will cover how to use this new information to your advantage as an angler and to apply it to rigging and the gear necessary for lake trout ice fishing.
* Jan. 18: "Shed antler hunting basics." Dawn Plattner, DNR assistant area wildlife manager, will provide an introduction to amazing antlers and tips on shed antler hunting.
* Jan. 25: "Dog sledding in Minnesota." Benji Kohn, DNR mentor network coordinator, and Bethany Hway's, founder and race director of the Klondike Dog Derby, will discuss some of the history of dog mushing, its popularity today and how to get involved in this terrific winter activity.
* Feb. 1: "Minnesota's native mussels." Join Madeline Pletta, DNR's lead mussel propagation biologist, to learn about the importance of Minnesota's native freshwater mussels and how the DNR is restoring populations across the state.
* Feb. 8: "Burbot fishing." Burbot or eelpout are becoming an ever-increasing target by many anglers for good reason: they are great fighters and are also known to be very tasty as well. Carl Pedersen and Jody Derks, both fisheries specialists with the DNR, will cover some basic biology as well as ways to fish for burbot.
* Feb. 15: "Bald eagles in Minnesota." Lori Naumann, Nongame Wildlife outreach specialist, will talk about the DNR's Eagle Cam and all things bald eagles.
* Feb. 22: "Foundational fire-starting." Pam Welisevich, a naturalist with Dodge Nature Center, will show to to start a fire without using a lighter and connect to the past. Learn some important techniques that apply to building, starting and maintaining all types of fires.
* Jan. 14: Snowshoe-lacing workshop, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Visitor Center, Whitehorse Hill National Game Preserve near Devils Lake. Minimum number of participants is 12, with a maximum of 18. Fee $150 at time of sign-up. For more information, check out the
