Ice hockey-Agosta announces retirement from Canadian women's team

(Reuters) - Meghan Agosta has announced her retirement from the Canadian women's ice hockey team on Friday after a career in which she won three Olympic gold medals and two world championships.

Agosta, who was named most valuable player of the women's hockey tournament at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics where she led her team in scoring, is ranked sixth all-time in goals (85) and points (176), and seventh in assists (91) with Team Canada.

"As I announce my retirement from Hockey Canada, I reflect on a journey that began with a childhood dream of proudly wearing the Maple Leaf on the world stage," Agosta, 37, said in statement released by Hockey Canada.

"From the moment I first donned the jersey, to representing Canada at world championships and the Olympic Games, that dream became a reality."

Following the 2014 Sochi Olympics, Agosta became a constable with the Vancouver Police Department and balanced those duties with hockey, going on to win a silver medal at the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Agosta also played at the world championship eight times and walked away with two gold medals and six silver medals.
