Ice Jam Leads to Flooding, Evacuations in Canada's Fort Vermilion

Mandatory evacuation orders were in place for part of Fort Vermilion, in Alberta, Canada, on April 27 as an ice jam on the Peace River led to flooding.

Mackenzie County authorities said water levels in Fort Vermilion “rose rapidly” that morning. “Extensive flooding is currently occurring in Beaver Ranch, North Vermilion, the Fort Vermilion Airport, and along the river in Ford Vermilion, east of 50th street,” they reported.

As a result of the flooding, the county announced a boil water alert for the city.
