Ice on Lake Michigan Cracks Loudly as It Breaks Away From Shore

A Chicago resident captured the sound of ice cracking on Lake Michigan, on February 21, as the area saw a high temperature of 38 F, according to reports.

In this video, by Damir Skaljic, the ice on the lake cracks loudly as shards scatter in the water.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, about a third of the lake was covered in ice on February 22, as temperatures above freezing were forecast for the week.

The Chicago Fire Department has warned residents to stay off the ice near the shore due to “dangerous conditions.”
