Ice skating, train rides, tree lighting and more at Somerset's first-ever Winterfest

SOMERSET — Longing for a good old-fashioned holiday festival? Somerset's inaugural Winterfest has you covered.

On Sunday, Dec. 5, from noon to 6 p.m., the Slades Ferry District will be transformed into a magical, winter wonderland for the town's first-ever Christmas celebration.

Local schools will perform holiday music throughout the day, grab some free hot chocolate to the escape the chill, and make ornaments to hang on the Winterfest trees or take home as a souvenir.

While you're busy making memories, take a family holiday photo in a huge, 25-foot snow globe. There will also be face painting, train rides, a performance of "The Christmas Carol" by local students, an ice skating rink with skates available at the event, and of course an appearance from Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

The holiday tree lighting will take place at 5 p.m. and the tree will stay lit throughout the season for all to enjoy.

Rumor has it that a certain green grump will be dropping in as well. The Mean One himself, the Grinch, is ready to spread some holiday cheer with his telling of the classic “How The Grinch Stole Christmas."

Remember to stop by the Somerset POP Team’s Toys for Tots booth and drop off a new, unwrapped toy or gift card to be distributed to local families in need this holiday season.

Rockland Trust will serve as a warming station, where guests can pick up complimentary hand warmers and some light snacks.

Do you love cookies or fancy yourself a crafter? Make sure to stop by The Pickled Deli, which has also offered up their space as a warming station during the event. While you’re there, check out their gingerbread cookie decorating kits available to purchase.

Pink Bean Coffee will also be hosting its own mini wonderland during Winterfest.

Head to their barn and keep warm and cozy by the fireplace while you sip on hot, wintery drinks. Pink Bean will also have beer and wine available for purchase for adult attendees.

Get crafty: Fall River-area Etsy shops to support this holiday season

Stay toasty while you watch holiday movies that will be playing there all day, and check out Pink Bean's photo opp spot complete with fresh flurries and props perfect for holiday cards or family photos.

They'll have some creative small bites made especially for the festival, so make sure to pop into the cafe to check out their event menu.

Don't forget to stop by and grab other delicious goodies available to fest guests. The food truck lineup includes A Mano Pizza Truck, Big Daddy King's BBQ, Cluck Truck, Friskie Fries, Hot Dog Wagon, The Lobster Roll, No Joke Smoke BBQ and more.

Winterfest will be held Sunday, Dec. 5, from noon to 6 p.m., on Slades Ferry Avenue, with a rain date of Dec. 12.
