Ice 'Speaking' as Great South Bay Lit by Long Island Sunset

An ice-topped Great South Bay was beautifully lit by the setting sun in Long Island, New York, on Thursday, January 27, with one person who witnessed it saying the ice was “speaking”.

Trish Minogue Collins recorded this video of the bay on the evening of January 27, as temperatures reached as low as 27 degrees Fahrenheit.

The National Weather Service warned that a strong winter storm would impact the state from Friday night through to Saturday, with up to 15 inches of snowfall expected.

The possibility of coastal flooding was also forecast by the service, with the greatest risk expected on Saturday and Sunday. Credit: Trish Minogue Collins via Storyful
