Ichabod Crane strikes early, downs Chenango Valley in Class B softball state final
Ichabod Crane scored in every inning in a 12-0 victory over Chenango Valley in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class B softball championship game Saturday at the Moriches Athletic Complex on Long Island.
Chenango Valley put itself in position for the program's first state title since 2010 and fourth overall with a 6-2 semifinal victory against Section 9 champion Marlboro earlier in the day.
The Warriors ended up with a 15-6 record.
Section 2 champ Ichabod Crane, ranked first in the state in Class B coming into the weekend, finished with a 25-0 record.

Turning point
The Riders took away the drama early, scoring three runs in the first inning and three in the second. They added single runs in each of the next three innings before a three-run sixth led to an early finish because of the mercy rule.
Defensive player of the game
Ichabod Crane pitcher Kari Graziano tossed a three-hitter. She struck out six and walked one over the six innings.
Offensive players of the game
Emma Scheitinger went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.
Makayla Walsh homered and drove in two runs for Ichabod Crane. Graziano, Carolina Williams and Ava Heffner added two hits each for the Riders. Heffner and Graziano drove in two runs apiece.
Maddie Trisket, Priscilla Soule and Maddie Hargus had the hits for Chenango Valley.
Strong semifinal for CV
In the semifinal win over Marlboro, Chenango Valley scored four runs over the first two innings to take control.
Soule went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Kate Hope went 2-for-4. Kaylee Watson and Chloe Osteen each contributed a hit and an RBI.
Ichabod Crane was a 14-2, five-inning winner over Section 6 champion Depew in their semifinal.
