The iconic designer behind the Ford Bronco

During the early years of the Civil Rights Movement a young Black designer began his career with Ford Motor Company. McKinley Thompson, Jr.’s presence at Ford as the first Black designer for the automaker led to the early sketches of the iconic Bronco. The Detroit Free Press honorably mentions Thompans as the “Jackie Robinson of car design.” He also contributed to the design of the Ford Mustang and GT40 race car. Learn more at
