Here are highlights of what's happening in Abilene this weekend, into next week.

Rodney, then Lyle

Country music fans who enjoy taking the dirt road that others may miss have not one but two concert opportunities this weekend, both at the Paramount Theatre, 352 Cypress St.

On Friday night, it's Rodney Crowell in concert, followed by Lyle Lovett on Saturday.

Crowell's only previous visit to Abilene may have been his September 1988 show at Butterfield Junction, a country dancehall off the Winters Freeway where Alan Jackson made his first appearance.

He was making his name from his "Diamonds & Dirt" album.

Singer Rodney Crowell will be in Abilene on Friday at the Paramount Theatre.

Reporter-News archives do no indicate that Lovett has been here before.

Crowell is bringing his Word for Word Tour to Abilene. This concert was scheduled for late 2022 but postponed.

Crowell will read from his book "Word For Word," tell stores and perform. The show starts at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $72 and $44 on the floor and $54 and $38 in the balcony.

At 8 p.m. Saturday. Lovett and his Acoustic Group are on stage. The big hair and Large Band are gone.

Lovett has been performing since 1986. He has won four Grammy Awards and the first Trailblazer Award given by the Americana Music Association.

He has been named Texas State Musician.

He is touring after the release of "12th of June," his latest album.

Lovett's music fits the wide-ranging Americana genre because it captures so many elements - country, gospel, blues, jazz and folks.

Few tickets remain for the show, most in the upper balcony at $29.

Films for Black History Month

The first is Thursday, when the Oscar-winning "Moonlight" shows at 7:30 p.m. The coming-of-age drama about a Black man living in Miami won the 2016 award for Best Picture.
