Feb. 20—Like the high school sports in regular season, those playing University Interscholastic League basketball playoff games have also had to adjust, given the snowy and icy weather, and its effect on roads.
Kilgore High School's boys basketball team has been off since Feb. 9, their final regularly-scheduled regular season game, and waiting on an opponent for the first round. That opponent is Pleasant Grove.
The game had been scheduled for today, but that has been postponed until Monday.
For the record, coach Jeff Coleman's Bulldogs will now face Pleasant Grove in the bi-district, or first, round of the UIL Class 4A boys basketball playoffs on Monday at 6 p.m. at Marshall High School.
The season is over for the losing team. For the winners, it's a trip to the second round to face either Canton or Sunnyvale.
Sabine's Lady Cardinals, who already have a first round win under their belts, are set to face DeKalb next, and that game technically probably should have already happened, but couldn't with the roads and weather.
It's now set. Sabine coach Sara Cantrell said her team will face DeKalb in a second-round game on Monday at 6 p.m. in Prairiland.
Sabine beat Harleton, 58-53, early last week. They took a ton of free throws — 43, to be exact — and successfully hit 32 of them.
Blaire Kaufman had 18 points. Hailey Davis had 12, and Mercedes Willett had 11. Ashlynn Davis had eight, Addy Gresham had four, Ally Gresham had three, and Maddie Furrh had two.
