Here are the top stories in Bedford today:

  1. An unexpected drop in temperature Wednesday morning turned what was supposed to be rain into sleet and freezing rain, causing hundreds of spinouts and accidents. There were hours-long traffic jams on almost all of the major highways due to icy roads in Southern New Hampshire. A FedEx airplane slid off the runway at the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport sustaining minor damage, a large state plow truck spreading sand and salt slid off the highway, a fire truck responding to a call slid down an icy hill, and state Senators and House members were delayed meeting as senators struggled to get to Concord, and House members were delayed arriving for their meeting in Manchester. The good news is that Thursday is expected to be sunny and warmer, but a snowstorm is expected on Friday. You can read more here: (WMUR)

  2. Lost dogs are often rescued in Bedford by good Samaritans, the animal rescue league, and the police, but this New Hampshire dog was looking for someone to help rescue his owner. New Hampshire State Troopers stopped to catch a German shepherd they thought was lost in Lebanon, New Hampshire on Monday night, but the dog was trying to show them something. When they approached, the dog "kept trying to get away, but didn't run away totally," said Lt. Daniel Baldassarre, with New Hampshire State Police. The dog, named Tinsley, led State Police to a damaged guardrail where they were shocked to find a crashed pickup truck that had rolled over. Both people inside the truck were seriously injured, including Tinsley's owner, but were able to get medical assistance thanks to a faithful German shepherd. You can read the full story here: (WMUR)

  3. A missing Manchester girl's father was arrested as the search for Harmony Montgomery continues. The missing girl was last seen in Manchester on October 2019, when she was 5. Adam Montgomery, 31, was arrested Tuesday on charges of second-degree assault related to a 2019 incident involving the missing girl, including interference with custody and endangering the welfare of a child, officials said. A $43,000 reward is being offered for tips that lead to finding Harmony Montgomery. Manchester police have created a dedicated tip line, and anyone with information about the missing girl is asked to call or text 603-203-6060. Tips can also be left on the anonymous crime line.
