ICYMI: A runner helped to the finish line, a dog in a nursing home, and a squirrel rescue

This week on Humankind, we saw amazing sportsmanship from a pair of young runners, a father's pride at meeting his daughter's heart recipient, a determined dog that snuck into a nursing home, a hot tub squirrel rescue, a touching moment when a baby chimp was reunited with his mom, and a dramatic pool rescue.

In Wisconsin, two cross-country runners from Stevens Point Area Senior High School saw a rival runner fall as they raced to the finish. After passing him, the two boys turned back, and in the true spirit of sportsmanship, they helped him across the line.

Katherine Herrmann had 20 heart surgeries before turning 20 years old. After receiving the heart of Desiree Burge in a life-saving transplant, she got the chance to hug and thank her donor's father, telling him that her new heart has allowed her to run a 5k, maintain a job, and get back to school.

In Bellaire, Michigan, a former stray dog named Scout from the Antrim County Animal Shelter ran away from his shelter, hopped a fence, crossed a highway at night, and waltzed through the automatic doors of a long-term care facility. Now, he has a forever home full of loving humans.

Watch a boy save a drowning man, a dog sneak into a nursing home, a hot tub squirrel rescue, and more on this week's Best of Humankind.

In Lytle, Texas, Natalie Evans and her son noticed a trapped squirrel that appeared to be drowning in their backyard hot tub. Together, they managed to scoop him out and nurse him back to health.

At Rockhampton Zoo in Queensland, Australia, a baby chimpanzee had to be admitted to a veterinary care facility after suffering a snake bite. When the chimp was finally reunited with his mom the day after, their joy was palpable.

Lastly, 12-year-old Austen MacMillan and therapist Jason Piquette were swimming in MacMillan's pool and competing to see who could hold their breath the longest underwater. But the game took a turn for the worse when MacMillan noticed his therapist was unconscious. The boy immediately sprang to action, first calling for help and then saving the man by performing CPR, which he'd learned watching the TV show, 'Stranger Things.'
