ICYMI: Smithtown Adoptable Pet Of The Week: Morty

SMITHTOWN, NY — Morty, a 10-and-a-half-year-old male Havanese senior dog, was named the Smithtown Animal Shelter's Pet of the Week. He's described as a mellow dog by shelter volunteers.

"Morty unfortunately had a rough start to his life, and he's looking for the right home to help him get back on his feet," the shelter said in an email.

He was found as a stray in the industrial park with severe skin and ear infections, as well as dry eye.

"He has a long road to get back to normal, but through it all, his spirit remains bright, and he still holds on to his sweet and loving nature," the shelter said. "Little Morty has been neglected before and he didn't let it break him. He needs a home that can take care of his needs, give him his medication, and shower him with the love he deserves. Morty will do well in a home with calm dogs, cats and older children."

If you are interested in meeting Morty, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with him in a domestic setting, which includes the shelter's Meet and Greet Room, the dog runs and the Dog Walk trail. Family Pet Meet and Greets and at-home interactions are also welcome and an integral part of the adoption process.

Due to the coronavirus, the Smithtown Animal Shelter has had to restrict public access to confirmed adoption appointments and animal/wildlife rescue. Hours are currently Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays and Wednesday evenings are by appointment only.
