Ida Floodwaters Disrupt Bayou Communities Along Mississippi River

Flooding persisted along the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, on September 7, more than a week after Hurricane Ida’s landfall in the area.

The Louisiana Department of Health confirmed 10 storm-related deaths, including three cases of carbon monoxide poisoning, as of September 3.

Local news reports said many residents in Plaquemines Parish were unable to return to their homes for more than a week due to flooding following Ida. Several thousand people were without running water due to broken pipes and hydrants, the report said.

Many of Louisiana’s bayou communities were still without power as of Wednesday, September 8, according to Entergy Louisiana’s outage map.
