New identification, visitor rules coming to Fort Indiantown Gap

Changes will be coming Tuesday, Jan. 16 to how people enter Fort Indiantown gap, the base announced in a Facebook post.

Service members and employees of the instillation will have to present a Department of Defense Common Access Card or valid state or federally issued ID that has previously been entered into the control points scanning system.

Anyone without a compliant ID must go through the control points visitors center with a valid photo ID, where the barcode on their ID will be scanned to check the identity and background of the individual.

A visitor pass does not cost anything.

The main access control point will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The visitors center is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

According to public affairs officer Maj. Travis Mueller, guards at the gate will be able to issue visitor passes outside of those hours.

After the background check, visitors will receive a pass to present when they go through the gate noting who they are and the reason for their visit.

Those with Veteran ID cards will also be able use their ID to get onto Fort Indiantown gap once the ID has been entered into the system. Those with Veteran ID cards should check into the visitors center on their first visit to have it entered into the system.

The main access control point officially went online on Nov. 1, shortly after a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Fort Indiantown Gap also announced in the post that, effective Jan. 16, a temporary access control point will open on Quartermaster Road near Shuey Lake on the east end of instillation.

This East ACP is opened to employees of Fort Indiantown Gap only, and everyone using it must have a compliant ID.

The East ACP will be open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m., with 3-6 p.m. being for outbound traffic only. It is closed on weekends and federal holidays.
