Ihockey - Czechs, Sweden edge towards world quarter-finals


- Co-hosts France sealed their place in the quarter-finals of the world ice hockey championships by beating Belarus 4-3 in a penalty shootout on Friday. The Czech Republic and Sweden both edged closer to the quarters with crushing wins. The Czechs scored three times in the first period before sealing a 5-1 victory over Slovenia to sit second in Group B two points behind two-time defending champions Canada. Sweden crushed Italy 8-1, scoring five times in the last period. The Scandinavians now sit one point behind Russia who have played a game less. Denmark delivered a blow to German hopes or reaching the quarter-finals, beating the tournament co-hosts 3-2 after extra time.
