IHSA boys basketball state finals 2023: Predicting the Illinois state champions

The IHSA boys basketball state finals return Thursday through Saturday at State Farm Center in Champaign.

Eight of the 16 state finalists ended the season ranked statewide in their class, so it should be a wide-open and competitive weekend of games.

Below is what you need to know about each semifinal, top players, history — plus predictions from Gannett sports reporters across Illinois.

CLASS 1A

Waterloo Gibault vs. Bloomington Cornerstone Christian, 10 a.m. Thursday

No. 8 Gibault (30-7)

  • Who to know: 6-1 sr. Kaden Augustine (17.1 ppg, 12.2 apg), 6-3 jr. Gavin Kesler (15.7 ppg, 6.5 rpg), 6-1 jr. Hudson Blank (10.0 ppg) and 41-year coach Dennis Rueter.
