IHSA state wrestling tournament 2023: Springfield-area matches, schedules, results

Here are the pairings and results of the area's high school wrestling state qualifiers in the Illinois High School Association boys state tournament at the State Farm Center in Champaign.

The tournament begins on Thursday with 10:30 a.m. weigh-ins. The Class 1A preliminaries get underway at noon, followed by the 2A prelims at approximately 2:15 p.m. and the 3A prelim round around 4:30 p.m. Following that round, the winner's bracket quarterfinals begin about 6:30 p.m.

The second session begins on Friday. Doors open to the public at 7:30 a.m. with the Class 3A winner's quarterfinals and the first round of wrestlebacks starting at 8:30 a.m. The Class 1A and 2A wrestlebacks begin at approximately 11 a.m. All second-round wrestlebacks will begin around 1:30 p.m.

The third session begins when doors open to the public at 6 p.m. on Friday followed by championship round semifinals at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, the doors open for the fourth session at 8 a.m. with quarterfinal wrestlebacks beginning at 9 a.m., followed by the semifinal wrestlebacks at 11 a.m. The third- and fifth-place matches will begin around 1 p.m.

The final session begins when doors open to the public at 4:30 p.m. The traditional grand march is at 5:30 p.m. while the championship matches get underway at around 6 p.m. The starting weight is 182 pounds.

106 — Conner Carroll, Rochester (34-7)

Lost 3-2 decision to Sammy Niyonkuru, Rock Island (30-10) in the first round. Won via pinfall at 3:16 over Johan Bonilla, Evergreen Park (28-14) in first round wrestlebacks. Won 10-7 decision over Noah Avina, Joliet Catholic (26-24) in second round wrestlebacks. Lost technical fall 15-0 at 4:56 to Harrison Dea, Morton (36-10) in the wrestleback quarterfinals

Lost via pinfall at 3:37 to Harrison Dea, Morton (34-9) in the first round. Won 12-5 decision over Mikey Wallace, Hinsdale South (19-9) in first round wrestlebacks. Lost technical fall 18-3 to Ivan Munoz, Ottawa (34-5)

113 — Drew Davis, Chatham Glenwood (49-2)

Won 3-2 decision over Nate Randle, Wauconda (31-9) in the championship match

How he got there: Won via technical fall 17-2 at 4:14 over Calvin Stahl, Chicago St. Patrick (32-15) in the first round. Won via technical fall 19-4 at 3:48 over Cory Zator, Lemont (37-7) in the quarterfinals. Won 8-1 decision over Ben Dunne, Lombard Montini (18-1) in the semifinals.

132 — John Ben Maduena, Chatham Glenwood (42-8)

Won via pinfall at 3:41 over Renzo Morgan, Deerfield (32-5) in the first round. Lost via pinfall at 3:02 to Peyton Cox, Washington (43-2) in the quarterfinals. Lost 6-2 decision to Sean Larkin, Chicago St. Rita (28-5) in second round wrestlebacks

145 — Nolan Mrozowski, Rochester (42-11)

Fifth place match: Won 14-6 major decision over Josyah Holland, Crete-Monee (25-8)

How he got there: Lost 13-5 major decision to Caleb Nobiling, Antioch (35-8) in the first round. Won via pinfall at 2:28 over Kyle Weinzierl, Geneseo (27-11) in first round wrestlebacks. Won via forfeit over Rider Searcy, Mount Vernon (40-4) in second round wrestlebacks. Won 10-4 decision over Steven Martin, Morton (17-11) in wrestleback quarterfinals. Fifth place match: Lost 10-1 major decision to Aden Byal, Chatham Glenwood (47-7)

How he got there: Won 3-2 decision over Cael Miller, Washington (27-9) in the first round. Won ultimate tiebreaker over Noah O'Connor, Lemont (36-11) in the quarterfinals. Third place match: Won 4-1 decision over Gambino Perez, Chicago Brother Rice (19-7)

How he got there: Won 14-3 major decision over Kevin Halley, Vernon Hills (26-11) in the first round. Lost 3-1 decision to Gambino Perez, Chicago Brother Rice (18-5) in the quarterfinals.
