Two of the state’s top high school senior basketball players have asked for their release from national letters of intent following coaching changes.

Zionsville guard Logan Imes and Ben Davis forward Zane Doughty both asked for their release Tuesday. Imes signed with Penn State, but coach Micah Shrewsberry left the Nittany Lions to coach Notre Dame last week. Doughty signed with Valparaiso, but asked for his release after coach Matt Lottich was fired Thursday.

“I’ve requested my release from my NLI so that I can see what other options may be available,” Imes said. “I am still open to attending Penn State once they have a new staff in place, if there is interest there. I also have a great relationship with coach Shrewsberry, so Notre Dame will be one of the options I consider.”

The 6-4 Imes averaged 16.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists as a senior for Zionsville. He shot 34.5% from the 3-point line. Penn guard Markus Burton, other of the top players in the state, is in the signing class for Notre Dame.
