IHSAA releases Iowa high school football district assignments for 2023-24 seasons
The Iowa High School Athletic Association on Monday released its high school football assignments for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Districts (Class 4A, 3A, 2A, 1A, A, 8-player) and groups (Class 5A) are in place for a two-year cycle. The 2023 football season is the first with a socioeconomic factor added for classifications. The adjustment works by reducing 40 percent of a school’s free or reduced lunch count from their annual enrollment to determine their final classification number.
One school in the Des Moines area impacted by this change is Des Moines North, which played in 5A last season but will compete in 4A in 2023 and 2024.
Each team, depending on group or district, will play eight or nine regular-season games. Full schedules for the upcoming season will be released in April, and Week 1 games are scheduled for the week of Friday, Aug. 25.
Here are the group and district assignments for 2023 and 2024.
