IHSAA volleyball, soccer playoffs viewers guide: What to know about a jam-packed Saturday.

We have a busy Saturday ahead, folks: 12 semistate soccer games and volleyball regionals all crammed into one 12-hour span. There is a lot to keep track of, so here's a guide to the day's best offerings, plus notes on a few other area participants.

Events are ordered chronologically. I want to attend just about all the games on this list, so if anyone has access to one of those Time-Turners from Harry Potter, my DMs are open.

Volleyball regionals:Scores, schedule, updated pairings

Soccer semistate:IHSAA pairings, schedule

VOL: Yorktown (31-2) vs. Brebeuf (26-3), 10 a.m. at Greenfield-Central

Start your day with two of the best teams in the country. The Tigers and Brebeuf are ranked ninth and 25th nationally, respectively, by MaxPreps (hand-picked), and second and third in Indiana by the MaxPreps computer rankings.

Brebeuf — which beat the two toughest teams in its sectional last Saturday — boasts one of the state's best liberos in junior Lola Schumacher; Yorktown — which has lost only two sets amidst its current 19-match win streak — brings one of the state's most efficient/potent attacks with a .280 team hitting percentage and three kills leaders all hitting over .320 (sophomore Charlotte Vinson leads the Tigers with 397 kills and a .325 hit%).

The series is tied 3-3, and five sets were required when they played in August (Brebeuf won, 19-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-20, 15-8).

Buckle up.

VOL: Speedway (16-14) vs. Guerin Catholic (15-17), noon at Monrovia

Guerin, a first-time sectional champion, has played the third-toughest schedule in Class 3A according to the MaxPreps computers. It boasts a senior-driven lineup with Ally Downey, Claire Castor, Lucy Caltrider, Val Loso and Ella Murphy joined by junior Paige Mascari (Molly Weas rounds out the six-person senior class).

The Golden Eagles are amidst a historic run; the Sparkplugs are amidst an impressive turnaround. Speedway, which finished 9-21 last year, is 15-5 since stumbling to a 1-9 start. Its run has been spearheaded by senior Taylor Ridge, who leads the team in kills and blocks, and younger sister Peyton Ridge, a sophomore, who leads in aces and kills. Setter Laney Jarrett has 540 assists.

It's the first-ever meeting between these two, with the winner likely to face Western Boone in the final.

GSOC: Carmel (17-2-2) vs. Center Grove (17-2-2), 1 p.m. at Seymour

This one should be a doozy.

Center Grove had not allowed a goal in seven straight matches prior to last weekend's 4-1 win over Evansville Reitz, while Carmel is averaging nearly four goals over its past five games after struggling offensively through most of the year.

The Greyhounds' attack has been led by Megan Hamm and a fully healthy Olivia Cebalo; the Trojans have been bolstered by the return of senior Kayli Farmer, and bring a similarly potent attack led by Emily Karr, Ali Wiesmann, Taylor Wert and Molly Tapak.

Carmel beat CG, 2-0, on Sept. 21 — and I guess that gives them a slight edge entering the rematch? — but after watching both teams in regionals last week (Center Grove vs. Roncalli; Carmel vs. Cathedral), this game feels way too close to call.

BSOC: Westview vs. Park Tudor (18-2-1), 1 p.m. at Kokomo

Park Tudor has been working for a shot at redemption, and it happens to come against the same team it lost to in semistate at Kokomo last year.

The Panthers have played the tougher schedule with a number of higher-class teams and three meetings with rival University, but that was the case last year, too, and PT was upset by the eventual state champions in overtime.

Of note: Neither Park Tudor's Matthew Bender nor Westview's Valentino Cevese give up many goals, so expect a low-scoring game Saturday afternoon.

…But by putting that in print I've basically guaranteed this game will end with a total score in the 20s — which probably isn't outside the realm of possibility. Francesco Nofrini and George Ferguson have combined for 39 goals for the Panthers; Teague Misner has 40 (40!) goals for Westview (senior Mohammed Aamaer has 21).

GSOC: Bishop Chatard (18-2-1) vs. Evansville Memorial (20-0-1), 1 p.m. at Evansville North

How about Chatard's road to the final four? No. 4 Guerin and No. 2 Brebeuf to start sectionals, followed by No. 14 Lawenceburg in the regional final.

Next up: Top-ranked Evansville Memorial.

Bri Buels is prolific on the attack for Chatard, with Reese Sochacki and Addison Duncan starring alongside her (Cece Leffler is out due to injury). GK Olivia Hill has allowed just one goal over her past three outings.

Memorial is on a 32-game unbeaten streak (31-0-1), and won seven of its past eight games by four goals or more (2-0 win over Chatard was the exception). It has allowed just four goals on the year, an impressive feat considering its loaded schedule. Freshman Emma Teague has been exceptional in net; seniors Ella Hammer, Avarie Zeller and Kennedy Neighbors have totaled 56 goals and 47 assists.

Whoever advances will be the favorite next week at IUPUI.

BSOC: Brebeuf Jesuit (15-4-1) vs. Evansville Memorial (15-3-2), 3:30 p.m. at Evansville North

Soccer fans in Evansville are in for a real treat Saturday with three semistate games involving Evansville teams, including the 2A boys battle, which features the No. 2 and No. 3 ranked teams in the class.

Brebeuf has yet to allow a goal in postseason play, and of its wins, only two have been decided by one goal. It has cruised through the playoffs, while Memorial needed overtime to eliminate Providence last Saturday.

Both teams are well-rounded and have plenty of experience, with the Tigers led by seniors Alex Fisher, Kole Stratman and Brady Wynn. Brebeuf senior Stefan Boes starred in a win over Speedway, while Quinn Warren and Jack Weeter anchor the back line.

BSOC: Penn (13-4-4) vs. Noblesville (14-3-3), 3:30 p.m. at Kokomo

Not many probably would have predicted a Penn-Noblesville semistate match, but here we are.

The Kingsmen's road to regional ran through sectional favorite Chesterton (they upset the No. 6 Trojans in the first round of sectionals), while the retooled Millers — led by Sam Holland and Sam Divis — have found success despite graduating a number of key pieces from last year's state championship team. Noblesville isn't as dominant as it was last year, but it's found ways to win with a deeper and more balanced attack.

VOL: Noblesville regional final, 6 p.m.

Barring a monumental upset by either Carroll or Homestead, the state's two best teams — Hamilton Southeastern (30-1) and McCutcheon (32-1) — will collide in the regional championship match.

The Royals' loss was to McCutcheon in the opener; the Mavericks' setback came vs. Yorktown.

Neither top-10 nationally ranked team has much in the way of weaknesses, and both have multiple Division I recruits scattered throughout their lineup.

It's going to be a doozy.

Other notes

>> Greenwood Christian Academy (10-7-3) was 5-7-3 entering sectionals. The Cougars beat Southwestern (Shelbyville) 1-0 to claim their first-ever regional title, and will play Forest Park (14-6-1) in Seymour at 5 p.m. for a spot in the final.

>> Shout out to Park Tudor's Gretchen Farley, who will run the semistate cross-country meet in Shelbyville at 11:15 a.m. before joining the soccer team for their semistate game vs. Evansville Mater Dei at 6 p.m. in Evansville.

>> The volleyball regional of death monicker probably belongs to Greenfield-Central — Cathedral (23-9) vs. Brownsburg (24-7) is the other semifinal — but Bloomington North is probably a close second with Center Grove (19-15) vs. Floyd Central (28-6) and Columbus East (20-12) vs. Castle (31-4).

>> The Noblesville girls, ranked No. 1 nationally by MaxPreps, have not allowed a goal since the opening round of sectionals. They play Crown Point at 6 p.m. at Kokomo.

>> I just enjoy this tidbit on the Cathedral boys soccer team (10-7-5): The Fighting Irish have won three straight games in penalties. They travel to Seymour to play Columbus North (18-1-1) at 3 p.m.
