IHSAA wrestling: What we learned after Indy-area conference championships

The girls wrestling season came to an end Friday at the IHSGW State Finals in Kokomo.

Here's what we learned this week on the boys side:

Brownsburg wins eighth straight Hoosier Crossroads title

Brownsburg continues its reign as one of the most dominant programs in Central Indiana, claiming its eighth-straight Hoosier Crossroads Conference title Saturday at Avon.

Brownsburg had six wrestlers win individual titles, helping amass 244 points. Zionsville finished second (186.5), followed by Hamilton Southeastern (185), Avon (148.5), Westfield (146), Franklin Central (138), Fishers (82.5) and Noblesville (81).

Jake Hockaday (106 pounds), Preston Haines (113), Logan Miller (120), Braden Haines (126), Gavin Garcia (138), and Leighton Jones (285) all earned individual titles. Preston Haines and Jones are repeat winners. Miller is a three-time champion.

Zionsville Brac Hooper (145), Anthony Rinehart (152) and Vincent McDonald (182) won individual titles. Avon's Cheaney Schoeff (132) and Landon Boe (160) also won individual titles. HSE's Ryan Cast (170), Franklin Central's Aataeveon Jordan (195) and Noblesville's Jacob Long (220) won their school's lone titles.

Roncalli wins sixth straight Circle City title

The Circle City Conference is in its sixth year of existence. In each of those six years, Roncalli has won the conference tournament.

Roncalli dominated, defeating Guerin Catholic (80-0), Brebeuf Jesuit (78-6) and Bishop Chatard (66-4).

Roncalli won 13 of 14 individual titles with seniors Kody Glithero (152 pounds) and Sam Peeples (195) winning their fourth-straight conference titles. Junior Bryce Lowery (138) and seniors Andrew Stuck (160) and Zach Wilson (145) won their third conference titles. Seniors Drew Willis (132), Justin Lewis (220) and juniors Patrick McGinley (126 pounds) and Luke Hansen (182) won their second conference titles.

Junior Luke Swartz (285 pounds) and freshmen Matthew Rossman (106 pounds), William May (113 pounds) and Alex Plahitko (120 pounds) were first-time conference champs.

Brebuef Jesuit junior Nolan Buckman (170) was the lone non-Roncalli individual champion.

Center Grove wins MIC championship

Center Grove used its six individual champions to clinch the 2022 Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference championship.

Center Grove placed first with 297 points. Carmel (238) placed second, followed by Warren Central (215.5), North Central (140), Lawrence North (111), Ben Davis (109), Pike (91) and Lawrence Central (25).

'This was 50-50 from the get-go': Carmel, Center Grove don't have a conference

Center Grove's Charlie LaRocca (106 pounds), Wyatt Krejsa (132), Hayden Watson (145), Drake Buchanan (182), Royce Deckard (220) and Nate Johnson (285) won individual titles. Watson and Buchanan are three-time MIC champions. LaRocca is a two-time champion.

Carmel's Gavin Thompson (113), Isaac Ward (126), Luke Farling (138) and Eitan Halevi (152) won individual titles. Warren Central's Kyrel Leavell pulled out a 7-5 decision over Center Grove's Reece Courtney to win the 120-pound title. Leavell is a two-time conference champion. Tyler Jones (160) and Anthony Cashman II (170) also won individual titles for Warren Central.

Jakobe Leavell (195) was Pike's lone individual champion.

Perry Meridian wins fourth Mid-State title

Perry Meridian joined the Mid-State Conference in 2018 from Conference Indiana and have dominated conference play since, claiming their fourth-straight Mid-State title Saturday at Mooresville.

Six Falcons claimed individual titles helping Perry Meridian place first with 271 points. Franklin finished second (257.5), followed by Whiteland (167.5), Martinsville (140), Decatur Central (124), Plainfield (93.5), Mooresville (90.5) and Greenwood (65).

Perry Meridian's Hruai Lian (106 pounds), Ryan Taylor (113), Toby Billerman (120), Matthew Koontz (145), Zachary Huckaby (160) and Ronin Hammond (195) all won individual titles. Koontz is a three-time conference champion. Billerman is a two-time conference champ. Franklin's Dayson Lashlee (132), Ethan Jeffery (138), Jude Barger (152), Nolan Skaggs (220) and Jacob Johnson (285) won individual titles. Johnson is a two-time conference champion.

Whiteland's Joey Buttler won the 126-pound title. Plainfield's Luke LeClerc won the 170-pound title. Mooresville's Luke Bullock won the 182-pound title.

Southport finishes fourth at Conference Indiana championship

Southport's 106-pounder Nathan Smith (32-0) remains unbeaten, claiming Southport's lone Conference Indiana individual title Saturday at the Southport Fieldhouse.

Smith pinned Bloomington South's Cameron Meier just 46 seconds into the match to win the title. One day after winning an IHSGW State title, Southport's Kyla Johnson finished as the 113-pound runner-up. Terre Haute South's Seth Brown won the 113-pound title.

Terre Haute South won the Conference Indiana title (237 points). Columbus North finished second (228), followed by Bloomington South (225), Southport (205), Terre Haute North (175.5) and Bloomington North (168).

Cascade wins Indiana Crossroads Conference title

Cascade's six individual title winners helped the Cadets win the 2022Indiana Crossroads Conference title

Casade earned 271 points, followed by Monrovia (237.5), Beech Grove (236), Lutheran (140), Triton Central (114), Scecina (78), Speedway (45) and Cardinal Ritter (38).

Cascade's Brayden Burelison (120 pounds), Dominic McFeeley (126), Garrett Hicks (145), Michael Hutchison (160), Liam Farmer (182) and Walker VanNess (220) all won individual titles. McFeeley and Hutchison are repeat winners.

Monrovia's Gavin Ash (106), Isaac Ash (113), Broden Goodman (138) and Brady Denny (170) won individual titles. Beech Grove's Ethan Thompson (132), Diondre Henderson (152), and Jacob Skinner (195) won individual titles. Jack Beard (285) won Lutheran's lone individual title.
