IKEA to open a new North Texas store that will be the first of its kind in Texas

An IKEA furniture store will soon open in Southlake, but it looks a lot different than the global brand’s traditional storefronts.

The retail site is just under 11,000 square feet, whereas IKEA’s other North Texas locations in Grand Prairie and Frisco are in the 300,000-square-feet ballpark.

In what will be the third IKEA location in the Metroplex, IKEA Southlake will operate under a new format where customers can meet with IKEA representatives to plan and personalize their home furnishing and decorations, place orders for delivery, and pick up online purchases. Unlike a traditional flagship location, customers won’t be able to take home orders they purchased the same day.

The Southlake store in the Park Village shopping center will open in late 2023, the company announced Tuesday. It will be located at 1041 E. Southlake Blvd., near a Michael’s arts and crafts store, West Elm furniture store and REI outdoor store.

Javier Quiñones, CEO and chief sustainability officer of IKEA’s U.S. operations, said in a release that IKEA is excited to offer a new shopping experience to customers with a focus on convenience and accessibility.

“Whether you’re looking for inspiration, need help from an IKEA design specialist or simply want to pick up an online order, the IKEA Southlake Plan & order point with Pick-up meets our customers where they are and how they like to shop,” Quiñones said.

The Southlake store will be the first of its kind in Texas. IKEA currently operates two locations under the new store format in California and has plans for other sites in California, Virginia and Maryland that will open in the summer and fall. Sweden-based IKEA operates more than 50 of its flagship store formats in the U.S.

“While the plan & order point with pick-up is different from our traditional IKEA store, we are continuously exploring new ways to bring IKEA closer to our customers and hope it will better meet the needs of our local customers,” said Rob Parsons, market area manager for IKEA U.S. in a release.
