Roseville will soon be home to Minnesota’s second IKEA location, a mysterious pop-up showroom.
The pop-up will be located on the lower level of Rosedale Center and is expected to open in February, according to the mall’s website.
IKEA pop-ups are time-limited stores, “like a circus of furniture fun, aimed to surprise, entertain, captivate and inspire,” according to the Swedish furniture maker.
The retailer’s pop-ups, which have their own themes, are found in shopping centers and other suburban areas where full-sized stores aren’t practical.
Last year, IKEA operated a kitchen planning pop-up shop inside a New Jersey mall. The six-month pop-up gave customers the ability to design, order and pay for their new kitchen from the kiosk.
IKEA has also launched pop-ups in Hong Kong in recent years that focused on healthy and sustainable living, as reported by Retail in Asia. The “Ikea Tsim Sha Tsui” pop-up in 2022 featured environmentally friendly products made from recycled and recyclable materials.
While IKEA declined to divulge the theme of the Roseville pop-up, a spokesperson said via email, “We’re continuously testing, exploring and developing our formats to bring our customers the best shopping experiences possible. We can confirm that IKEA is coming to Rosedale Shopping Center. We look forward to sharing more as our plans develop.”
The only full-sized IKEA in Minnesota is located across from the Mall of America in Bloomington and spans 330,000 square feet including a 380-seat restaurant.
The retailer reported record sales in 2023 totaling $6.3 billion of goods and services, which it said was a 6.6 percent increase compared to the previous year.
