IKEA shows how you can make your own 'Game of Thrones' cape

Despite the untold millions of dollars it costs to produce Game of Thrones, it turns out the HBO show’s costume designer shops at IKEA just like the rest of us.

During a talk at the Getty Museum event in Los Angeles last year, head costume designer Michele Clapton revealed that the capes worn by the Night's Watch are actually just sheepskin rugs from IKEA, which anyone can purchase for $79.

In typical IKEA fashion, the company decided to release its own instructions, so you too can turn your sheepskin rug into a cape.

Clapton reveals in the talk that their process is much more complicated than just cutting a hole in the center, but still, props to IKEA for finding a smart way to relate one of its products to the show.

"We take anything we can; we cut and we shave them and then we added strong leather straps," Clapton said about the rugs. “I want the audience to almost smell the costumes."
